I like Ike's
By G. Evans

For those of you who have been living under a rock, you may not have heard of the Castro District phenomenon, Ike’s Place. After a couple of moves, Ike's has now settled into its permanent location on 16th at Sanchez, we at mycastro.com thought it would be a great time to spread the word: Ike’s makes some good insanely ridiculous sandwiches.

They say the secret is in “Ike’s Dirty Secret Sauce”, and while Castro residents and visitors may like to get dirty, what I like is the fresh ingredients that you can literally taste. What’s better than a sandwich made on fresh-baked bread, mycastro.com readers?

Ike’s is also a fun place to grab a sandwich in the Castro District San Francisco. The staff is super friendly, your sandwich-maker delivers your order, and they give you a delicious lollipop with it! Each of the sandwiches also has its own clever name. And as savvy mycastro.com readers already know, you can order off-menu items as well. Oh, I almost forgot you get a free bag of chips too. How sweet right?

Ike is making some menu adjustments, and I'm just devastated that my perennial fav, the "Will the Thrill" (hot link on French roll with all the fixin's) has become a special menu item that will only be available occasionally. Of course, if it's not available, I’ll just have to order one of my favorite alternates: the “SF Hollywood Cheesesteak" or the formidable “Big Fat Bastard".

Castro District San Francisco vegans also have a plethora of options available, but don’t ask for my opinion on any of them because I heart meat. But if it comes from Ike’s, I’m sure it’s delicious. There’s also numerous halal chicken options for mycastro.com readers who are practicing whatever it is that leads someone to eat halal chicken. But, whatever it is if it means I can't get my "Thrill," then count me out.

Whatever your dining preference, if you're looking for the best sandwich you’ve ever eaten, look no further than Castro District San Francisco's favorite Ike’s.

Here's a couple options to whet your appetite:

[Name of the Girl I’m Dating] Halal Chicken, Honey Mustard, Avocado, Pepper Jack - $9.98
